One in three U.S. adults has prediabetes — and nine out of 10 do not know it. Preventing diabetes reduces risks for heart disease, stroke and certain cancers. A year-long series will provide education, lifestyle coaching, a CDC-approved curriculum and group support, all free of charge.

The Suffolk County Department of Health presents A Matter of Balance, a free series of eight classes that aims to help individuals, especially older adults, manage concerns about falling. The program teaches how to view falls as "controllable," sets goals for increasing activity, suggests changes at home to reduce fall risks, and demonstrates exercises to improve strength and balance. The program has room for 12 participants.

Many of us have lost someone near and dear. Grief can be devastating because we may feel lost and alone. The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the New York City District Council of Carpenters will conduct a recruitment from Sept. 10, 2025, through Sept. 9, 2026, for 25 carpenter (piledriver/dockbuilder) apprentices; 20 Linoleum, resilient tile and carpet layer apprentices; three cabinet maker apprentices; and 10 millwright apprentices.
