One out of three U.S. adults has prediabetes, and nine out of 10 don't know they have it. Preventing diabetes reduces chances of other chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke and some cancers. If you have prediabetes, you can take control and reduce your risk of developing diabetes. St. Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown and the Suffolk County Department of Health will conduct a year-long educational series to reduce the risk of diabetes, including lifestyle coaching and support. Bereavement Groups for Spousal Loss

The Huntington Senior Center's Initial Bereavement Group meets Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. It helps individuals who have recently experienced the death of a spouse work through grief, examine feelings and discover inner strengths -- all in a caring and supportive setting. The separate Next Step Bereavement Group for Spousal Loss, which meets Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon, is for individuals who have completed the Initial Bereavement Group sessions.
